Job Overview:

Join the City of Baytown as an Environmental Education Specialist, where your role will be to engage and educate visitors about local ecosystems and wildlife. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about environmental education and have experience in developing interactive programs for various audiences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the creation and implementation of nature-focused educational and recreational activities for community members of all ages.
  • Represent the Nature Center at community outreach events.
  • Provide general information about the Nature Center to visitors and callers.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Currently pursuing or have completed a degree in Science, Education, or Biology from an accredited institution.
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Enjoyment in working with both children and adults.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One year of relevant experience in Education, Biology, or Nature Centers.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Demonstrated interest in areas such as birding, fishing, plant identification, and ecology. Ability to assist in developing educational programs for diverse age groups. Strong communication skills, particularly in engaging with children and the public. Comfort in handling live animals for educational purposes.

Work Environment:

This position may require occasional weekend events and overnight travel. Attendance is essential, and the role may involve providing services during emergency situations.
