Joining the dedicated team at Herrick House means contributing to the well-being of our community.

This part-time Optometrist position offers 20 hours of work per week, with eligibility for benefits. The schedule includes two full days (8 hours each) and one half day (4 hours).

Job Overview:
Delivers comprehensive and specialized eye care services to patients, adhering to the full spectrum of Optometric practice.

Collaborates with fellow Optometrists, Ophthalmologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient care that promotes eye health and vision.


Key Responsibilities:
Conducts thorough optometric assessments and refers patients to an Ophthalmologist when necessary. Performs detailed eye examinations, evaluates patient history, administers specialized tests, and provides non-surgical treatments. Develops and executes personalized treatment plans and selects appropriate corrective devices. (essential)

Offers urgent and triage eye care services, directing patients to an Ophthalmologist when specialized attention is warranted.

Refers patients to other healthcare providers when additional expertise is required. Maintains accurate records of evaluations, diagnoses, and treatments in patient medical files. (essential)
Engages in the creation and execution of quality improvement initiatives within the unit. Contributes to a safe and efficient examination environment. (essential)
Provides patient education and support.

Participates in interdisciplinary training programs and mentors new staff, students, and residents.

Engages in peer review processes to enhance the quality of Optometric practice. (essential)
Demonstrates leadership that aligns with hospital and departmental goals, advocating for improvements in healthcare delivery. Communicates relevant healthcare issues to support staff, patients, and the community. Proposes and implements strategies to advance Optometric practices in patient care. (essential)

Required Qualifications:
Doctoral degree in Optometry is mandatory.
Current Optometrist license is required.
0-1 years of relevant experience is preferred.
Completion of an accredited Optometry training program is necessary.
Must hold a valid license for the State of Massachusetts, including a Controlled Substance license for prescribing diagnostic and therapeutic agents as per state regulations.

Proficiency in computer systems is essential, including web-based applications and familiarity with Microsoft Office tools such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Access.


Preferred Qualifications:
Completion of a residency or fellowship in Optometry; 3-5 years of experience in an Optometry setting.
