Manufacturing Engineer

Astrolab is seeking a highly skilled Sr. Manufacturing Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our production team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing manufacturing processes and systems for our planetary rovers and surface operations.
Key Responsibilities- Design and develop manufacturing processes and systems for structural components, avionics assemblies, and electro-mechanical sub-assemblies.
- Drive design for excellence (DFx) throughout all stages of the product life cycle.
- Develop and institutionalize fabrication and assembly standards.
- Champion implementation of technology, processes, and methodologies to accelerate hardware development, build, test, and operation.
- Triage and determine solutions for non-conformances.
- Perform hands-on troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
- Design and own assembly and fabrication tooling from concept through implementation.
- Develop work instructions and documentation for build and test processes.
- Outline detailed project plans and drive cross-functional execution.
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM field; master's degree or relevant certifications are a plus.
- 5+ years' of experience working in production, R&D, manufacturing engineering, or test operations; preferred experience with NASA projects.
- Demonstrated mastery of project management and associated tools.
- Demonstrated understanding of electro-mechanical systems as well as metallic and composite structures.
- Deep understanding of industry and NASA mechanical and avionics standards.
- Expert in root cause problem solving across the product life cycle.
- Experience with Lean and Six Sigma principles.
- High proficiency with GD&T.
- Proficiency with CAD modeling software (e.g., NX or SolidWorks).
- Understanding of DAQ systems, meaningful experience in set-up and troubleshooting, and prior experience in basic coding (LabVIEW, Python, etc.).
- Experience with safety regulations and establishing best practices.
- High proficiency with JIRA, MES/MRP software, and Excel.
- Work with a team of best-in-class engineers building the foundation of planetary surface exploration.
