At Blue Origin, we're committed to developing innovative space technologies that push the boundaries of human exploration and settlement. We're seeking an experienced Space Safety Expert to join our Space Systems Development team.

This role is a key part of our effort to ensure the safety and reliability of our spacecraft systems. As a Space Safety Expert, you'll work closely with our engineering teams to identify and mitigate potential hazards, develop and implement safety protocols, and provide expert guidance on system safety analysis and risk assessment.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain system safety analyses, including Hazard Analyses, FMECA, Fault Tree Analysis, and Hazard Reports.
  • Collaborate with engineers to identify areas for design improvements and minimize risk to people and property.
  • Participate in gated reviews to communicate safety analyses and ensure compliance with safety requirements.
  • Apply system safety principles and tools to contribute safety-centric improvements to activities such as ConOps development, requirements analysis, and interface definition.
  • Ensure traceability between system and subsystem functions, requirements, and safety artifacts.
  • Train and coach engineers on identifying and analyzing system safety risks.
  • Work with systems engineering and subsystem cognizant engineers to identify and verify compliance with system safety requirements.
  • Assist in generating metrics and reporting on program system safety status.
  • Implement and maintain system safety processes and identify continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Participate in actively maintaining a healthy system safety culture.

About You:

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in aerospace and/or aviation manufacturing, with a B.S. degree in aerospace engineering or related field.
  • Experience with performing safety analyses, including different types of Hazard Analyses, FMECA, Fault Tree Analysis, and Hazard Reports.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, fluid schematics, and electrical circuit diagrams.
  • Strong safety and mission assurance fundamentals.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate metrics and report on program system safety status.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team on rapid development programs.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical partners.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

A competitive salary range of $120,060 - $168,084 depending on location, with additional benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
