Job Summary

UChicago Medicine is seeking a highly skilled Music Therapist to join our team at Comer Children's Hospital. As a Music Therapist, you will play a vital role in providing psychosocial support to children and families during hospitalization, surgeries, and out-patient visits.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate music therapy services to promote socialization, develop coping skills, and enhance body image and awareness in children and families.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive therapeutic music program for individuals and groups, including planning, scheduling, and evaluating interventions.
  • Promote family-centered care by involving parents/caregivers, siblings, and other family members in the therapeutic process.
  • Educate parents and staff on the benefits of music therapy and provide a therapeutic outlet for children and families.
  • Develop relationships with families that are caring, trusting, beneficial, and professional, and advocate for opportunities for parents/caregivers to maintain their parenting role.
  • Document patient progress and outcomes in accordance with department guidelines.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in music therapy or a related field.
  • Current professional Board Certification (MT-BC) or the designation of Registered, Certified, or Advance Certified Music Therapist (RMT, CMT, or ACMT) by the American Music Therapy Association.
  • 1-2 years' work experience with children and adolescents, preferably in a hospital setting.
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to utilize theoretical constructs of human development for assessment and intervention for infants through teenagers.
  • Leadership abilities, good organizational skills, and interpersonal skills necessary to establish therapeutic relationships with children and their families.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in music therapy or a related field.
  • Experience working with art therapy interns and/or volunteers within the context of art programming.
