Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Additive Manufacturing Engineer to join our team at Edison Welding Institute. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in metal additive manufacturing technologies and excellent technical knowledge and expertise in this area.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute technical work scopes for incorporation into project proposals
  • Manage a portfolio of projects as Principal Investigator (PI), execute per the scope and deliverables, and provide technical guidance to the project team to deliver high quality results
  • Support lower-level engineers with research, lab work, and developmental activities
  • Operate a range of commercially-available and custom additive manufacturing systems as-needed, including supporting equipment
  • Collaborate with internal teams and industry partners to advance additive technologies and provide technical leadership
Requirements
  • Strong technical knowledge and expertise in metal additive manufacturing technologies
  • General knowledge of metals and metallurgy involving a wide range of metals and metal alloys
  • Excellent customer facing skill set with ability to work with potential clients to develop technical work scopes for incorporation into project proposals
  • Aptitude with design tools, computer-aided design, data analysis, and process design
  • Familiarity with data acquisition systems, sensor feedback, and controls
  • Understanding of mechanical testing and the ability to execute mechanical test plans and describe mechanical testing results
  • Proven ability to function in a fast-paced, project-based, environment
  • Willingness to travel periodically (10-20%) to customers and conferences
Education and Experience
  • S. in Material Science Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Welding Engineering, or related field
  • Graduate degree in relevant area of study is preferable
  • Minimum of five (5) years' experience in metal additive manufacturing; or three (3) years' metal additive manufacturing experience combined with five (5) years' experience in welding or related technologies
  • Experience using powder-based additive manufacturing equipment
  • Experience with carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and nickel-based material systems
