Job Title: Emergency Department Communicator

At Children's Wisconsin, we're dedicated to providing exceptional care to our young patients. As an Emergency Department Communicator, you'll play a vital role in ensuring seamless communication and coordination between clinical caregivers, patients, and families.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage clinical information and coordinate clinical caregivers for the Emergency Department Trauma Center
  • Participate in Milwaukee County emergency management through monitoring of WI track
  • Coordinate diagnostic services to ensure efficient patient flow within CHW and off-site facilities
  • Recognize critical situations and relay information to necessary staff members
  • Obtain and transport medications, and notify designated nurses or prescribers
  • Monitor WI track for ED diversions, community, and emergency management alerts
  • Coordinate patient tracking during disasters, and delegate specific clerical functions to inpatient HUCs
  • Act as a member of the unit team, keeping members apprised of changes affecting unit functioning
  • Greets, welcomes, and guides patients and parents, determining their needs and providing information regarding EDTC process
  • Answers and directs telephone calls, relays messages promptly and accurately
  • Contacts patient care staff directly or through hospital paging systems as directed by authorized personnel
  • Re-prioritizes workload to adapt to changing conditions, and initiates requests for services from ancillary departments
  • Maintains an efficient and orderly environment, and facilitates patient flow
  • Ensures confidentiality and maintains a secure environment in compliance with HIPAA
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One year healthcare experience in a health unit coordinator or similar role
  • Data base maintenance, data entry, and data reporting skills
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and prioritizing skills
  • Critical thinking and crisis intervention skills
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to gather and share information with physicians, patients, visitors, families, and team members
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Understanding of common Emergency Department procedures, tests, treatments, and medications
Schedule Details:

.6 FTE (24 hours per week) 12 hour night shift
