This role involves creating and executing individualized education programs (IEPs), collaborating with general education staff, and fostering an inclusive classroom environment that promotes the academic, social, and emotional development of students.
Core Responsibilities:
- Design and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
- Modify and adapt curriculum materials to cater to the diverse needs of students.
- Deliver direct instruction in academic, social, and life skills domains.
- Work collaboratively with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, and related service providers to ensure students receive the necessary support and services.
- Evaluate and monitor student progress, adjusting teaching strategies as required.
- Maintain comprehensive and accurate records of student performance, attendance, and behavior.
- Engage in regular communication with parents, guardians, and other stakeholders regarding student progress and any concerns.
- Participate in IEP meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and professional development activities.
- Promote a positive, inclusive, and secure classroom atmosphere that encourages student participation and learning.
- Implement behavior management strategies and interventions as necessary.
- Stay informed about best practices in special education and adhere to state and federal regulations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related discipline (Master's degree preferred).
- Valid teaching certification in Special Education.
- Highly Qualified Teacher (HQT) status in Special Education as per state education guidelines.
- Experience with a diverse range of disabilities, including learning disabilities, emotional/behavioral disorders, and autism spectrum disorders.
- Familiarity with state and federal special education laws and regulations, including IDEA.
- Strong skills in communication, collaboration, and organization.
- Ability to utilize assessment data to guide instruction and monitor student progress.
- Experience with assistive technology and resources to enhance student learning is advantageous.
Certifications and Licensure:
- Professional Educator Certificate in Special Education.
- Highly Qualified Teacher (HQT) designation in Special Education.
- CPR and First Aid Certification (preferred).
Working Environment:
- Work is primarily conducted in a classroom setting.
- May involve interaction with students facing physical or emotional challenges.
- Occasional travel for meetings and professional development may be necessary.
