Job Summary:

As a Special Education Teacher at Second Start Learning Disabilities Programs, you will play a vital role in shaping the educational journey of students with emotional and behavioral impairments. This is a dynamic and rewarding position that requires a deep understanding of special education principles and practices.

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensure effective classroom behavior management of assigned students on a day-to-day basis, utilizing all available resources and collaborating with school staff.
• Teach daily lessons to assigned students from a school-approved classroom syllabus, adapting to meet the unique needs of each student.
• Supervise, mentor, and work collaboratively with assigned 1:1s and/or Educational Assistants, fostering a supportive learning environment.
• Monitor and assess, on a regular basis, the academic and behavioral progress of each assigned student, pursuant to their approved IEP or EP, and develop corrective measures as necessary to maintain the student's maximum learning availability and learning capacity.
• Work collaboratively with school staff and parents to regularly assess the academic and behavior needs of assigned students and develop corrective measures as necessary to maintain the student's maximum learning availability and learning capacity.
• Plan, implement, and supervise all classroom lessons, learning activities, including out-of-classroom field trips, non-physical education recreational, non-lunch break, and social activities.
• Evaluate each student's classroom performance (both academically and behaviorally) and issue grades accordingly.
• Complete an IEP at year's end for each assigned student, as needed, or by parent request.
• Meet student classroom performance goals pursuant to stated IEP objectives.

Requirements:

• A four-year college degree from a fully accredited institution, preferably in education, child psychology, math, science, English, history, or social science, with a Master's degree being highly desirable.
• Must possess a Mild/Moderate, Moderate Severe, or LH (Learning Handicapped) Credential. (We will consider candidates in an approved Internship program.)
• At least one (1) year of demonstrated professional experience working with emotionally and behaviorally disturbed children and/or adolescents is required, with experience in a combined Special Education-Mental Health work environment preferred.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to effectively communicate verbally in English, fluently.
• Must be able to use a computer and telephone.
• Must be able to read and compose written communications in English fluently.
• Subject to taking a Human Performance Exam to assess Handle with Care training.
• Some local travel may be required.
• Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. This position is not eligible for sponsorship.
