Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Kubernetes Platform Engineer to join our Infrastructure team within the HPC Infrastructure and Networking Group. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability, availability, and performance of our Kubernetes platform.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement scalable and efficient Kubernetes clusters to support our high-performance computing needs.
  • Develop and maintain advanced monitoring and logging tools to ensure real-time visibility into our platform's performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve complex technical issues, from bare metal to application code.
  • Work closely with vendors to resolve hardware and software problems, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum uptime.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation, providing 24/7 support and off-hours maintenance windows to ensure our platform remains available.
  • Provide expert-level support to scientific and technical users of our NCCS, helping them to effectively utilize Kubernetes.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least five years of relevant technical experience, with a strong focus on Kubernetes, Docker, and containerization.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience working as an SRE/Systems Administrator/Systems Engineer.
  • Experience with image registries such as Quay or Harbor, and a working knowledge of Unix systems fundamentals and common network protocols.
  • Ability to develop and maintain programs and scripts that aid in the operation and automation of tasks using various shell and scripting languages.
  • Working knowledge of tools such as Prometheus, Nagios, and Grafana to monitor systems, metrics, and create dashboards.
  • Experience with code review and familiarity with tools like git, GitHub, and GitLab.
