Job Summary
The University of Colorado Boulder Museum is seeking a highly skilled Visitor Services Attendant to provide exceptional visitor service, retail service, and security to museum patrons. This role exists to supplement permanent security/visitor services personnel and support front desk operations, opening and closing of the museum, and working at the front desk during evening lectures, opening receptions, and other special events.

About the Museum
The University of Colorado Museum champions exploration and appreciation of the natural environment and human cultures through research, instruction, and community outreach. We provide academic training for graduate students in the Museum and Field Studies Program; build, conserve, and interpret research collections; and offer exhibits and educational programs for the University and the public.
Key Responsibilities
- Provides exceptional visitor services and demonstrates knowledge of the Museum, its personnel, sections, and the CU campus by informing visitors about Museum operations, giving campus directions, answering questions, explaining policies, and advising phone inquiries.
- Protects Museum assets by supervising the actions of visitors, both in person and via CCTV cameras, and safeguarding Museum keys and noticing any unusual occurrence.
- Provides access to the Museum building by unlocking the building, disarming the security system, opening exhibit halls and common areas, and closing the Museum building by locking entrance doors, checking and locking all interior rooms, closing windows, turning off all electrical equipment (except computers) and lights, and arming electronic security system upon exiting the building.
- Facilitates retail sales by welcoming and assisting customers and being familiar with merchandise, making sales and/or returns correctly using point of purchase and the credit card system, and closing cash drawer daily by counting drawer and using the Clover receipts.
- Operates as back-up building proctor by noticing building problems or unexpected changes and responding to emergency requests from Museum staff, and responds to building emergencies or emergencies involving Museum patrons by contacting the Service Center, Alarm Detection Systems, CUPD, or other appropriate authorities.
- Works with other members of the Museum's Public Section to help with programs, tours, and other activities as needed.
Requirements
- 2 Years of experience that includes Retail experience and Customer Service experience. Education may substitute for the experience on a year for year basis.
- High School Diploma.
- Fluent speaker of English.
- Energetic.
- Excellent Relationship Building skills.
- Ability to work independently and with responsibility for initiating and completing tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience from an accredited college or university.
- Spanish language proficiency.
- Experience in formal and informal education settings.
