Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Cardiac Sonographer to join our team at VCU Health. As a key member of our diagnostic imaging department, you will be responsible for performing high-quality ultrasound procedures and providing exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform diagnostic ultrasound procedures and examinations as ordered by licensed independent practitioners.
  • Determine ultrasonic frequencies and appropriate transducers for the anatomic area of interest.
  • Maintain accurate records and respect patient confidentiality.
  • Apply principles of patient safety during all aspects of procedures.
  • Verify informed consent and assume responsibility for patient needs before, during, and after procedures.
  • Prepare patients for procedures and apply principles of ALARA to minimize exposure to patients, self, and others.
  • Evaluate images for technical quality and ensure proper identification is recorded.
  • Identify and escalate emergency situations and manage until appropriate personnel arrive.
  • Provide patient education related to imaging procedures and educate, mentor, and oversee students and other learners in the Radiology environment.
  • Participate in ongoing quality assurance activities.
Requirements
  • Certification by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) certification in cardiac sonography.
  • Current Certification by ARDMS or CCI Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers).
  • One (1) year of previous work experience as a Cardiac Sonographer/Technologist.
  • Preferred qualifications include one (1) to three (3) years of previous work experience as a Cardiac Sonographer/Technologist and previous work experience in an academic medical center environment.
Working Conditions

This is a full-time position with a 10-hour shift, 5x8 schedule, and rotating shifts, including weekends as needed.
