Key Responsibilities:

Special Education Compliance

Oversee the processes for student placement, initial evaluations, assignments, and re-evaluations in special education to ensure adherence to state and federal regulations.

Manage and supervise the special education information system data to guarantee that staff and student records, timelines, and IEP data comply with IDEA, state laws, and district policies.

Guide staff in the creation and development of comprehensive IEPs.

Facilitate complex IEP meetings with parents, educators, school leaders, advocates, attorneys, and agency representatives to strategize and implement interventions tailored to the educational and behavioral needs of special education students.

Act as the representative for KIPP St. Louis in out-of-district and private placements, serving as the LEA representative for IEP/Manifestation Determination/Eligibility meetings as designated by the Manager of Special Education.

Assessment and Monitoring

Administer various assessments as directed by the VP of Student Services.

Stay informed and knowledgeable about federal and state special education laws, regulations, and policies.

Maintain accurate progress reporting for all IEPs and ensure they are developmentally appropriate, curriculum/standards-based, strength-based, and relevant to individual students.

Provide constructive feedback to special education teachers regarding their case management processes.

Communicate with school leadership teams and monitor suspensions of students with IEPs, ensuring that all manifestation meetings are conducted appropriately.


Program Coordination

Engage directly with parents to address inquiries and ensure that all school actions align with maximizing student learning in the Least Restrictive Environment.

Foster effective communication with staff, parents, and administration regarding KIPP St. Louis' special programs.

Assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual reports on student outcomes for school leaders and regional stakeholders.

Collaborate on the scheduling of special education services, maintaining updated schedules for speech and language services, special education teachers, paraprofessionals, OT, and PT.

Maintain a central Special Education Information Database for all schools.


Team Development

Support the establishment of school-based special education teams.

Work alongside the Manager of Special Education to oversee special education documentation, making necessary corrections based on quarterly audits.

Plan, implement, and assess special education department events and professional development opportunities.

Regularly communicate and collaborate with supplemental service providers (OT, PT, SLP, paraprofessionals, etc.) to ensure that service minutes are fulfilled effectively.

Meet weekly with the Manager of Special Education to ensure streamlined communication between school and regional levels, discussing cases, scholars, situations, and progress related to special education.

Assist in the recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing training of new special education team members.
