Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Full Time Bus Operator to join our team at the Chicago Transit Authority. As a Bus Operator, you will be responsible for safely and efficiently transporting passengers on our bus routes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Drive a Bus Safely: Operate a bus in a safe and efficient manner, adhering to all traffic laws and regulations.
  • Announce Stops: Clearly announce bus stops and intersections to passengers.
  • Collect Fares: Collect fares from passengers and ensure that they have the correct change.
  • Provide Excellent Customer Service: Provide exceptional customer service to passengers, responding to their needs and concerns in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Operate a Bus in Various Conditions: Operate a bus in a variety of weather conditions, including extreme cold and heat, and in different types of traffic.
  • Perform Pre- and Post-Trip Inspections: Perform pre- and post-trip inspections of the bus to ensure that it is in good working condition.
  • Follow Company Policies and Procedures: Follow all company policies and procedures, including those related to safety, customer service, and operations.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required. At least 21 years of age. Valid State of Illinois Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or CDL permit with the necessary endorsements.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to stand for long periods, walk, and climb stairs. Ability to lift, carry, and push objects. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make quick decisions.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Possess excellent customer service skills. Possess a comprehensive knowledge of traffic laws and regulations. Possess the ability to read and interpret bus schedules. Possess a thorough knowledge of the fare structure and transfer regulations.
Working Conditions
  • Work Environment: Work in a fast-paced environment with frequent exposure to noise, vibration, and extreme temperatures.
  • Physical Hazards: Exposure to physical hazards, including traffic accidents and mechanical malfunctions.
