Job Title: Bus Driver Part-Time Position

Daystar Academy, an IB continuum school in the city of Chicago, is seeking a temporary bus driver for the school year. As a bus driver, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of children and adults being transported to and from the program and on field trips.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensures the safety and well-being of children and adults being transported to and from the program and on field trips.
  • Arranges for the annual state inspection of the bus and ensures that all necessary repairs are made.
  • Completes a comprehensive written inspection of the bus daily and reports any conditions of concern to the Head of School.
  • Ensures that the communication device is in proper working order before each trip.
  • Develops and follows efficient and safe written bus routes.
  • Operates the bus in such a way that road and safety regulations are always followed.
  • Assists with ensuring child/staff ratios are maintained on the bus and provides day-to-day guidance to the teachers and chaperones.
  • Follows safe bus loading and unloading procedures.
  • Keeps the bus clean and free of debris.
  • Routinely inventories bus emergency and first aid supplies and equipment.
  • Manages bus drills and ensures bus evacuation drills are held as needed.
  • Documents all drills in writing.
  • In case of accidents/emergencies, evacuates children according to written and practiced procedures.
  • Assures that medical emergency procedures are followed and completes a written accident report as required.
  • Attends and participates in center pre-service and in-service trainings, and other continuing education, career and professional development opportunities.
  • Maintain confidentiality about children, their families, and other employees.
  • Model positive and respectful interactions with students and all members of the Daystar community at all times.
  • Support professional collaboration with teachers and staff members to ensure consistency and continuity in classroom programs.
  • Collaborate with teachers and staff through problem-solving, flexibility, communication and encouragement.
  • Adhere to all of the requirements outlined in the Staff Handbook.
  • Build a sense of trust in the school by fostering a respectful, cordial, and professional relationship with parents.
  • Be an excellent ambassador of Daystar Academy at all times.
  • Respect all school procedures and organizational structure.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.
