Position Overview

The Rhode Island School of Design Dining and Catering department is in search of dedicated On-Call Bartender/Servers to enhance our vibrant team.

An On-Call Bartender/Server is responsible for providing exceptional service to patrons in a friendly and professional manner. This role involves independently managing the setup and takedown of catering functions at various designated locations, adhering to specific venue requirements. The ability to adapt to different settings on campus as directed by management is essential to fulfill the needs of the department. Maintaining cleanliness and organization of the assigned areas is a key responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

In alignment with the mission and values of Dining Services, the incumbent may be required to undertake one or more of the following tasks:
  • Prepare, serve, and dismantle catering events. This includes, but is not limited to:

    - Arranging dining and buffet tables with appropriate tableware and linens.

    - Delivering food from the kitchen to the dining area as needed.

    - Setting up buffets with a focus on food presentation and safety.

    - Serving food and beverages directly to guests at their tables.

    - Mixing alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks while ensuring a tidy bar area.
  • Engage with customers and colleagues in a courteous and professional manner. Serve customers promptly and respectfully, representing the institution and the Dining department with knowledge and professionalism to a diverse audience, including students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Adhere to established customer service standards.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment. Ensure that all public areas are kept tidy through regular cleaning and maintenance.
  • Comply with all health and safety regulations. This includes, but is not limited to, proper food temperature management, personal hygiene, and sanitation practices.
Qualifications
  • A high school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Strong attention to detail is essential.
  • TIPS certification is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One to three years of relevant experience in food service within a restaurant, college, or café setting.
  • Rhode Island sanitation/ServSafe certification is a plus.

This position is not part of a union.

Work Schedule

This is an on-call position with a variable schedule, averaging approximately 15 hours per week.
