About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Surgical First Assistant to join our team at Ascension Sacred Heart. As a Surgical First Assistant, you will play a critical role in providing direct assistance to surgeons during surgical procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct assistance to surgeons during surgical procedures, including positioning patients and utilizing stabilizing equipment.
  • Assist with visualization of the operative site, including manipulation of tissue and materials, retraction, sponging, suctioning, and irrigation.
  • Utilize appropriate technique to achieve temporary and permanent hemostasis.
  • Assist with body plane closure, application of wound dressings, and securing of drainage systems.
  • Participate as a surgical team member in the preparation of the surgical suite according to surgeon's preference cards.
Requirements
  • BLS Provider certification obtained within 1 month of hire date or job transfer date.
  • Certified First Surgical Assistant credentialed from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or First Surgical Assistant credentied from the American Board of Surgical Assistants (ABSA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
  • High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience, Associate's degree/Technical degree, or 4 years of applicable cumulative job-specific experience.
