Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY

The Patient Access Representative II plays a crucial role in enhancing departmental efficiency by executing a variety of tasks, including scheduling, registration, and managing patient admissions and discharges. This position requires the collection of comprehensive and precise patient demographic data. Additionally, representatives must utilize compliant techniques for patient liability collection throughout the service timeline.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties are essential to the role. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
  • Welcome patients in accordance with Conifer Health Solutions' service standards, delivering exceptional customer service, completing thorough patient registration at the time of service, and adhering to financial and cash management protocols. Ensure all necessary hospital and patient legal documentation is explained and secured (e.g., Advance Directives, Consent for Treatment, etc.). Scan and organize Protected Health Information, and prepare patient information packets for upcoming services. Assist with scheduling diagnostic tests as required.
  • Inform patients about their financial responsibilities, employing appropriate and compliant techniques for collecting patient liabilities before, during, and after services. Conduct cash reconciliation and secure payment entries while following financial policies.
  • Verify medical necessity in compliance with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, confirm insurance coverage and eligibility, and complete assigned financial clearance tasks. Obtain necessary authorizations for both scheduled and unscheduled services, and facilitate inpatient notifications to payors. Assist in coordinating post-discharge care as needed.
Conifer Health Solutions mandates that candidates, where applicable and permitted by law, provide proof of all required vaccinations and screenings prior to employment commencement. This may include, but is not limited to, COVID-19 and influenza vaccinations.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

To excel in this position, candidates must demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Typing proficiency of at least 35 words per minute.
  • Proficient in using PC/CRT/printer systems.
  • Familiarity with hospital operations is preferred.
  • Strong customer service experience.
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Completion of a Medical Terminology course is required.
  • Understanding of Third Party Payor requirements is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of compliance standards is preferred.
  • Ability to perform essential duties across multiple Patient Access service areas, including Emergency Department.
  • Utilize effective negotiation techniques for collecting payments from patients and guarantors.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with internal and external clients to enhance communication and productivity.
  • Capable of interpreting physician orders, medical terminology, and insurance documentation while upholding Conifer Health Solutions' service standards.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

The following education and experience are preferred for this role:
  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • 0 - 1 year of experience in a customer service role.
  • 0 - 1 year of administrative experience in a healthcare setting or related field is preferred.
  • Some college coursework is advantageous.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical demands of this position include:
  • Ability to sit at a computer for extended periods.
  • Occasional lifting of items weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Frequent standing, sitting, and walking.
  • Occasional assistance with patient mobility using a wheelchair.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment may include:
  • Hospital administration settings.
  • Potential exposure to critical patient conditions in care locations.
