About the Position

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Animal Services Officer III to join our team at the City of Saint Paul, MN. As an Animal Services Officer III, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of animals and the community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Enforce animal and pest control ordinances, investigate complaints, and patrol sites to determine compliance with city codes.
  • Perform technical and administrative work in conducting and monitoring animal and pest control programs.
  • Issue citations, orders of corrective actions, and progressive enforcement actions for non-compliance.
  • Complete complex inspections, prepare reports, documents, and forms related to inspections, investigations, compliance, and research.
  • Coordinate, plan, lead, and ensure efficient, cost-effective, equitable, and customer-focused animal control services in all parts of the city.
Requirements
  • Five years of experience working as an animal control officer, including leading team activities, providing animal welfare and control, conducting investigations, and enforcing regulations.
  • OR four years of experience performing as an animal control officer, including leading team activities, providing animal welfare and control, conducting investigations, and enforcing regulations, AND one year of education in veterinary technology, animal science, biology, criminal justice, or a similar field.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Class D Driver's License or equivalent out-of-state driver's license.
  • Must possess or obtain an advanced Animal Control Officer/Animal Services Certification within one year of hire.
  • Must obtain and maintain authorization from the SPAC veterinarian of record to euthanize animals within three months of appointment.
