Job Summary

Piedmont HealthCare is seeking a highly skilled Medical Physicist to join our team in Radiation Oncology. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safe and effective delivery of radiation therapy treatments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Treatment Planning: Perform external beam radiotherapy treatment planning, including routine dose calculations, patient data generation, and compensating filter design.
  • Gamma Knife Treatment: Participate in MR and CT image acquisitions, structure localization, and individualized treatment plan development.
  • Quality Control: Conduct monthly accelerator and Gamma Knife quality assurance, spot checks, and reviews of technical and scientific data.
  • Brachytherapy Treatment Planning: Verify prescriptions, work with simulation therapists, and perform treatment planning according to prescription.
  • Productivity and Cost Management: Make responsible decisions to enhance productivity and reduce costs, considering equipment and supply costs, and accurately entering and reviewing daily charges.
  • Radiation Safety: Comply with Piedmont HealthCare's Radiation Safety Program, practicing ALARA in all activities, interacting with hospital departments, and following policies and procedures.
  • Inter-Departmental Radiation Studies: Participate in ongoing protocol studies, gather correct data, and ensure documentation is performed correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Communication and Teamwork: Establish a good working relationship with physicians and other members of the department, provide positive feedback, and promote a team approach.
  • Client Communication: Demonstrate appropriate communication with clients of various age groups, using appropriate language and approach.
  • Departmental Programs: Participate in Piedmont HealthCare and departmental programs and initiatives, attending meetings, serving on committees, and identifying ways to implement department goals and objectives.
Requirements
  • Education: Master's of Science in Medical Physics or related discipline.
  • Experience: Three years of clinical experience in a radiation therapy department or completion of a CAMPEP-approved residency program.
  • Licensure/Certification: Ability to be listed as an authorized medical physicist on a radioactive material license in the State of Georgia, and completion of Part I of the certification exam by the American Board of Radiology in Radiation Therapy Physics.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Treatment Planning: Skills related to treatment planning, radiotherapy equipment calibration, and measurement.
  • Communication: Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge: Knowledge of current trends in the field of medical physics.
