Job Summary

This position provides leadership and supervision to a Geodetic Surveying Field Unit to fulfill the New Mexico Department of Transportation's (NMDOT) obligation to survey transportation projects to meet operational needs and support the development of construction plans in support of the annual construction program STIP.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and support statewide geodetic control surveying utilizing available resources and technologies to assure quality of services and products are being delivered to support planning, surveying, design, and construction on NMDOT projects.
  • Assist in the development of staff through training and performance evaluations.
  • Keep up with technologies and know the capabilities/limits of the technology.
  • Supervise and lead a team of surveyors and mapping technicians to ensure accurate and timely completion of projects.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure alignment with NMDOT's goals and objectives.
Requirements
  • Licensed Professional Surveyor in the State of New Mexico with a minimum of eight (8) years of relevant surveying experience.
  • High level of expertise and understanding of geodesy, satellite geodesy, and global datums.
  • Map projections.
  • Ability to work in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage.
  • Requires statewide overnight travel, exposure to construction equipment, traffic, heights, heavy lifting, insects, pollen, rough terrain, and inclement weather conditions.
