Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Histotechnologist to join our team at UNC Health Care. As a Histotechnologist, you will play a critical role in preparing tissue samples for pathologists to determine the cause of death, disease, and treatment.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Investigate equipment and test result issues, specimens, and workflow problems.
  2. Participate in teams or perform special projects/assignments.
  3. Perform quality control and equipment maintenance.
  4. Prepare tissue slides by processing, embedding, sectioning, examining, and staining tissues.
  5. Teach Clinical Laboratory Science students and Pathology residents, and train new employees.
  6. Prepare specimens and reagents, solutions, heat, or filters as required.
  7. Provide leadership and guidance to co-workers.
  8. Report results to healthcare providers and consult/confere with them regarding test results.
  9. Review test results to ensure accuracy and timely correction of errors.
Requirements

We require a Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry Science, or Biological Science. HTL(ASCP) certification by the ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) within two years from date of hire is also required. Relevant laboratory experience is preferred.

What We Offer
