Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Energy Data Analyst to join our team at the Virginia Department of Energy, State Energy Office. The successful candidate will collect, organize, and analyze state facility energy consumption data to trend energy consumption, demonstrate the impacts of energy conservation measures, and identify best practices and improvement opportunities in support of Virginia legislation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect and analyze state facility energy consumption data
  • Trend energy consumption and demonstrate the impacts of energy conservation measures
  • Identify best practices and improvement opportunities in support of Virginia legislation
  • Work with federal, state, and local government officials and representatives of private sector consultants, vendors, and contractors
  • Provide timely and effective assistance to customers
Requirements
  • General knowledge of federal, state, and local policies as they apply to programs
  • Knowledge of data analysis principles, including cleaning, analyzing, interpreting, and displaying data using different approaches and business intelligence tools
  • Ability to transform raw data into meaningful statistics, information, and explanations
  • Ability to respond effectively to constructive criticism relating to design choices and apply analytic principles to increase the effectiveness of data that has been gathered
  • Working knowledge of current and emerging energy conservation resources and technologies focused or related to ESPC, EM&V, demand response, fuels, and energy procurement and energy data acquisition, analytics, and visualization
  • Strong working knowledge of computer business and communications application software (Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and bridge the gap between the technical and non-technical
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize workflows
  • Exceptional analytical skills, effective oral and written communications, critical thinking, attention to detail, and organized project management capabilities
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with federal, state, and local government officials and representatives of private sector consultants, vendors, and contractors
  • Ability to provide timely and effective assistance to customers
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with advance business intelligence analytical tools (Power Bi, Tableau, Cognos)
  • Experience in regulatory issues, contracts, and contract administration
  • Previous experience in operation and energy use of large government or equivalent commercial facilities
