UPMC Hamot is seeking dedicated Surgical Technologists to join our dynamic Operating Room team. Our facility features a state-of-the-art 17 suite operating room that encompasses a diverse range of specialties, including Robotics, Kidney Transplants, and Trauma care.
We pride ourselves on delivering exceptional care to a wide spectrum of patients, from infants to the elderly. This role offers the unique opportunity to collaborate with renowned surgeons and anesthesiologists from across the nation.
Shifts/Hours:
Our Surgical Technologists operate on a rotating schedule of 10 or 12-hour shifts to maintain continuous coverage.
We are pleased to offer SIGN-ON BONUSES for new hires in both full-time and part-time Surgical Technologist roles, with the bonus amount varying based on your experience in Surgical Technology.
Compensation Structure:
- 0-1 years of experience: 2-year commitment $5,000; 3-year commitment $6,000
- 1-2 years of experience: 2-year commitment $6,000; 3-year commitment $8,500
- 2+ years of experience: 2-year commitment $7,500; 3-year commitment $12,500

Role Overview:
The Surgical Technologist is responsible for a variety of essential tasks within the operating room, supporting the surgical team effectively.
- Prepare sterile setups for surgical procedures, ensuring all instruments, sponges, and sutures are readily available for the surgical team.
- Assist in the cleanup of the operating room and ensure all equipment is functioning correctly.
- During surgical procedures, manage special trays, graft materials, and maintain accurate patient records.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure all medications are correctly labeled and handed to the surgeon in accordance with established protocols.
- Prepare the operating room prior to surgery by arranging surgical instruments, sterile drapes, and solutions.
- During surgery, efficiently provide instruments and sterile supplies to the surgical team.
- Assist with patient care, including transferring patients to recovery and preparing them for surgery.
Maintain a clean and safe environment by adhering to safety protocols and aseptic techniques.
Qualifications:
Candidates must have completed a program accredited by a recognized institution or possess equivalent military training. Certification is required, or candidates must have been employed as a surgical technologist in a healthcare facility prior to the effective date of the act.
Continuing Education:
Compliance with continuing education requirements is mandatory, including 30 hours every two years for non-certified individuals.
Experience:
Entry-level positions are available for candidates with 0-2 years of experience. Surgical specialties include general, orthopedic, vascular, plastic and reconstructive, obstetrics and gynecology, thoracic, ophthalmic, and neurosurgery.
Licensure and Certifications:
CPR certification is required based on AHA standards, along with various clearances as mandated by law.
