Your Opportunity
Stantec is in search of a dynamic, self-driven, and resourceful Ecological Consultant to enhance our Natural Resource division. This role offers the chance to advance your career with a prominent environmental consulting firm that caters to a diverse array of private, federal, state, and local government clients across multiple states.

As an Ecological Consultant, your responsibilities will include conducting fieldwork such as species surveys, habitat evaluations, wetland assessments, compliance checks, inspections, and providing technical support services. You will also be tasked with drafting reports, formulating plans, and executing strategies to efficiently advance projects towards completion.
Your Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in data collection for wetland assessments and functional evaluations in accordance with relevant agency guidelines.
  • Conduct vegetation surveys and monitoring activities.
  • Carry out wildlife assessments and habitat evaluations for protected species.
  • Collaborate with field teams to ensure project success.
  • Document, input, organize, and analyze ecological and environmental data.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and documentation for client and regulatory submissions.
  • Travel to various project sites to conduct field assessments within Stantec's operational regions.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • A strong interest in ecosystems, conservation, and outdoor activities is essential.
  • Ability to approach challenges with critical thinking.
  • Commitment to safety for yourself and your team.
  • Knowledge of local vegetation and species in the relevant regions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, particularly with MS Office applications.
  • Strong attention to detail and effective note-taking abilities.
  • Demonstrated work ethic and ability to operate independently.
  • Proficient field skills, including navigation in challenging terrains using aerial maps.
  • Familiarity with GPS data collection and environmental regulatory compliance is advantageous.
  • A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are required.
  • Willingness to travel and conduct fieldwork in remote locations, including overnight trips and weekends as necessary.
  • Physical capability to lift and transport equipment.
  • Certification as a Wetland Delineator is preferred.
Education and Experience
A Bachelor's or Master's degree in wildlife biology, rangeland ecology, environmental science, forestry, botany, soil science, or a closely related field is required.

Minimum of 2 years of experience in the field performing habitat evaluations, wetland assessments, compliance checks, inspections, and technical support services is necessary.

This position involves both field and office work, with field duties potentially exposing you to various environmental conditions, including inclement weather, remote locations, and rugged terrain. The role requires physical stamina for extended periods of standing, walking, and carrying equipment, as well as the ability to make visual and tactile distinctions.
