Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Law Enforcement Officer to join our team at the Livingston County Sheriff's Department. As a Deputy Sheriff/Road Patrol, you will be responsible for maintaining law and order, enforcing laws and ordinances, and providing public safety services to our community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain law and order by patrolling assigned areas, enforcing laws, and investigating crimes.
  • Drive patrol vehicles, observing traffic violations and issuing citations.
  • Assume control at traffic accidents, assist accident victims, and investigate causes of accidents.
  • Notify supervisors of major accidents or crimes, contact coroners if necessary, and make preliminary investigations.
  • Investigate illegal or suspicious activities, quell disturbances, and locate and take persons into custody on arrest warrants.
  • Maintain order in crowds, parades, fairs, funerals, and other public gatherings.
  • Prepare records and reports associated with law enforcement work.
  • Attend court and present evidence in connection with arrests made or cases investigated.
  • Transport or escort prisoners between courtrooms, correction facilities, and medical facilities.
  • Answer questions, direct, and assist the public.
  • Serve court orders and processes, such as summonses, subpoenas, and income executions.
  • Perform marine patrol, operating boats in navigable waters of the County.
Requirements
  • Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma.
  • Possession of a New York State driver's license, and maintenance of such license throughout employment.
  • Meet all current requirements of Section 58 of the Civil Service Law.
