Neonatologist Opportunity in Springfield, Missouri

Experience the charm of the Ozarks with an affordable cost of living

Responsibilities

Are you seeking a rewarding position that offers flexibility and quality time for family and outdoor pursuits in the Ozark mountains? Our Springfield practice is expanding and looking to add a board-certified or board-eligible neonatologist to our team of 4 neonatologists and 6 NNPs. This role provides a unique chance to work in a supportive environment while caring for a select number of critically ill or extremely premature infants.

The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 3 years of experience, prefer a private practice model grounded in evidence-based medicine, and thrive in a collaborative team atmosphere while enjoying their work. Opportunities for leadership roles, particularly in POCUS or resuscitation, are available, and we encourage individuals to cultivate expertise in their areas of interest to share with the team. We are open to both part-time and full-time arrangements for the right candidate.

Neonatologist Work Schedule:

  • Approximately 6-7 shifts per month as the primary neonatologist providing routine daytime care (IN HOUSE routinely 8 am to 5 pm) with AT-HOME call and backup for 24/7 IN-HOUSE NNP for the remainder of the 24-hour shift.
  • Average daily census of 25, split between 1-2 neonatologists and 1-2 NNPs.
  • Average of 34 admissions monthly, including 2-3 infants born under 1500 grams.
  • Approximately 6-7 shifts per month as backup neonatologist providing routine daytime care for about 5-8 Level II infants (IN HOUSE approximately 3-5 hours/day).
  • Attend very-high risk deliveries (under 27 weeks, major anomalies, etc.).
  • Provide comprehensive AAP Level III care (no ECMO, no cardiac surgery).

NICU Environment:

  • State-of-the-art, 46-bed Level-III single patient room NICU.
  • Dedicated NNPs providing 24-hour, in-house coverage.
  • Procedural nursing team attending high-risk deliveries and providing NICU transport services.
  • NICU-dedicated specialists in SLP, PT, OT, RT, and pharmacy available 7 days a week.
  • Utilization of EPIC and Baby Steps Cloud EMRs.
  • Pediatric sub-specialists providing coverage in-person or via telehealth.
  • Highly-trained and inquisitive nursing staff.

Springfield, located in scenic southwest Missouri, is the third largest city in the state, known for its friendly atmosphere and a cost of living significantly below the national average. The area boasts affordable housing options, a vibrant college community, and a variety of recreational and cultural activities.

This position offers the chance to work in a facility situated in a Health Professional Shortage Area (HPS) or Medically Underserved Area/Population (MUA/MUP).
