Job Overview

We are seeking a Veterinary Care Specialist to join our team at The Henry M. Jackson Foundation in Bethesda, Maryland.

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and detail-oriented individual to provide daily care of research animals and assist with research projects under the direction of the Principal Investigator and/or supervisor.

Responsibilities
  • Perform various procedures at animal facilities under the supervision of the Attending Veterinarian or designated Clinical Veterinarian.
  • Maintain clean cages and racks in experimental areas, properly feed the animals, and prepare media, solutions, and isotopes.
  • Assist in performing surgery and microsurgery on animals, maintain records to comply with regulatory requirements using good laboratory practices (GLP), and train research and DLAR staff members in animal handling, restraint, medication administration, sample collection, health evaluation, and euthanasia.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED required; minimum of 0-2 years experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) desirable.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions, use hands effectively to perform surgical preparations, and comply with Institute's occupational health and safety requirements.
  • Must be proficient at using software tools such as Google Suite, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel.
Estimated Salary

The estimated salary range for this position is $45,000 - $60,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.
