Job Summary

RED Rochester LLC. is seeking a highly skilled Instrumentation & Controls - Supervisor to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the effective supervision of all Instrumentation and Control (I&C) Technicians, ensuring efficient and productive utilization of assigned personnel and financial resources to minimize downtime and cost of plant equipment.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in instrumentation, flow metering, and control systems, with a minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in a utility, facility, or industrial plant environment. A minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience is also required.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a team of technicians, providing technical support to Energy and Wastewater Treatment Operations, and ensuring all control systems are highly reliable and cost-effectively maintained.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Manage a team of I&C technicians, including scheduling, job planning, and performance management.
  2. Provide technical support to Energy and Wastewater Treatment Operations, ensuring continued reliable and efficient operations.
  3. Ensure all control systems are highly reliable and cost-effectively maintained.
  4. Develop and implement effective I&C Preventative Maintenance (PM) programs to improve equipment availability and efficiency.
  5. Identify, specify, quote, and procure material needed for day-to-day I&C tasks or small projects.
  6. Act as Project Manager when necessary to implement small control system projects.
  7. Manage the maintenance of RED's Distribution Metering infrastructure to ensure accurate and timely billing to RED's customers.

Requirements:

  1. Associate's degree preferred, in engineering or a related field.
  2. Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience with instrumentation, flow metering, and control systems, preferably in a utility, facility, or industrial plant environment.
  3. Minimum 2 years supervisory experience in a utilities, facilities, or industrial environment.
  4. Experience with Microsoft Office applications.
  5. CMMS Software experience (SAP, Oracle, or Maximo).
  6. Experience required with distributed control systems (DCS), their function, and operational/maintenance needs.

Competencies:

  1. Mechanical and electrical aptitude.
  2. Ability to work independently.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge of industrial utility equipment and systems, including boilers, gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, chillers, cooling towers, and air compressors.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of the National Electrical Code and other applicable NFPA codes.
  5. Results-driven self-starter with the desire to manage diverse teams to bring creative solutions to a dynamic operating environment.
  6. Demonstrates a high level of emotional intelligence and can communicate in a calm, professional manner in stressful environments.
  7. Able to communicate and explain technical ideas in layman's terms to assist leadership and others without technical expertise in making informed decisions.
  8. Dedication to customer service and understanding that our most important customer is RED Operations.
  9. Able to adjust easily to rapid change, possesses a strong sense of urgency, and can work well under pressure.
  10. Technical problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills are required.
  11. Possesses excellent written and oral communication skills in English.

Work Environment:

  1. A combination of normal office/desk, shop, and heavy industrial park conditions.
  2. Must go in the field on jobs to supervise employees working outside in all weather conditions from street level to rooftops.
