Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the loading and unloading of students, including the operation of mechanical lifts for wheelchair access.
- Ensure students are securely fastened in their seats along with any necessary equipment for safe transportation.
- Contribute to the development of emergency response plans and evacuation procedures.
- Monitor the needs of medically classified students and maintain awareness of their specific requirements.
- Report any unsafe conditions to the bus driver promptly.
- Manage student behavior in accordance with established regulations.
- Communicate effectively with school personnel, parents, and the community.
- Engage in safety training sessions and meetings.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned.
Education Requirements: No formal education required.
Certifications: Completion of School Bus Aide training and other mandated programs; CPR and First Aid Certification is preferred.
Experience: No specific experience required; however, prior experience working with students with disabilities is advantageous.
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to follow instructions with precision.
- Capable of handling confidential information responsibly.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with child restraint systems for special needs transportation is beneficial.
Working Environment:
- Exposure to various weather conditions.
- Potential contact with pathogens, chemicals, and combustible materials.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move up to 40 pounds regularly.
- May require bending, kneeling, and reaching.
- Proficiency in maneuvering adult-sized wheelchairs.
- Tasks may involve sitting, standing, and walking.
