Job Title: Speech Therapist


**Job Summary:**

We are seeking a skilled Speech Therapist to join our team at Nexus Children's Hospital. As a Speech Therapist, you will be responsible for conducting patient speech assessments, evaluations, and providing speech therapy services to our pediatric patients.


**Responsibilities:**

  • Conduct speech therapy sessions for patients as assigned.
  • Screen, evaluate, and develop individualized treatment plans for patients.
  • Evaluate patients within 72 hours of physician referral.
  • Provide age-appropriate therapeutic interventions.
  • Evaluate patient response to treatment and document the treatment plan as necessary.
  • Provide information about treatment and updates to staff, physicians, and family members.
  • Document treatment and outcomes daily according to accepted regulatory, corporate, and professional guidelines.
  • Provide patient and family education on tasks and resources to assist with continued functional independence.
  • Communicate results of speech-language evaluations/assessments and make recommendations to the treatment team and patient and family.
  • Participate in patient care conferences, rehabilitation department meetings, and other meetings as assigned.
  • Serve as a resource in areas of speech-language pathology.
  • Conduct in-services as requested and educate staff during orientation and yearly staff competency fair.
  • Coordinate treatment activity with other disciplines and team members as appropriate.
  • Is certified in vital stim and administers appropriately to patients.
  • Is competent in administering Modified Barium Swallow Studies.
  • Offers positive suggestions/solutions to improve service delivery and unit operations.
  • Assists with developing student programs as requested and acts as a preceptor to SLP students.
  • Contributes to the delivery of cost-effective care.
  • Utilizes resources appropriately and uses/maintains equipment to prolong working life.
  • Participates in discharge planning and completes appropriate paperwork.
  • Documents and charges daily therapeutic units timely and accurately.
  • Communicates with the Rehabilitation Manager regarding department programs, goals, objectives, problems, and successes.
  • Performs PMV trials when ordered by the physician.
  • Adheres to department productivity standards.
  • Performs MBSS when ordered by physician and reports recommendations to the treatment team.
  • Communicates with direct care staff regarding patient diet, aspiration precautions, etc.


**Qualifications:**

  • Graduate of a master's level program which is either accredited by the Speech-Language Pathology Educational Standards Board or whose course work and practice meet course ASLHA certification.
  • Minimum of one year working with the pediatric or adolescent populations.
  • Licensed by the state of Texas in Speech-Language Pathology.
  • Certified in AHA BLS/CPR.
  • SAMA or other Nexus-approved Behavioral Intervention certification at hire and annually after that.
  • Must obtain current tuberculosis test within the first fourteen (14) days of employment and annually after that.
  • Maintain current certification in good standing during employment with this facility or obtain it within thirty (14) days of hire.
