Patient Service Representative II

We are seeking a highly skilled Patient Service Representative II to join our team at Advocate Health. As a key member of our patient access team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service to patients and families, ensuring a seamless and efficient experience throughout their visit.
Key Responsibilities- Greets patients and visitors, responds to routine requests for information, and answers telephone calls and messages.
- Registers patients, obtains demographic and insurance information, verifies insurance coverage, collects co-pays and deductibles, and updates demographic and insurance information.
- Schedules patient appointments, coordinates cancellations, reschedules, and additions to schedules, and provides accurate and detailed information regarding test preparations and patient instructions.
- Coordinates the scheduling of complex patient appointments, tests, and procedures, and instructs patients on pre- and post-procedure protocols.
- Updates insurance, financial responsibility, and other data when changes occur, and communicates with patients as necessary.
- Identifies, reports, and resolves problems regarding registration or authorizations to appropriate individuals and departments.
- Monitors patient flow to ensure efficient and courteous care, and offers assistance to patients as needed.
- Performs visit closure, including checking out patients, scheduling follow-up appointments, and providing patients with a visit summary.
- May educate patients, staff, and providers regarding prior authorization requirements, payer coverage, eligibility guidelines, documentation requirements, and insurance changes or trends.
- High school graduate or equivalent required.
- Typically requires 1 year of experience in providing customer service, including experience in patient scheduling, registration, and department/medical clinic reception.
- Excellent customer service skills, communication and interpersonal skills, and intermediate computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office or similar applications.
- Understanding of basic medical terms and abbreviations, and training or experience in keyboarding/data entry with an emphasis on speed and accuracy.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Exposed to normal medical office environment, may be exposed to potentially ill patients.
- Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
