Position Overview:
The Visual Rehabilitation Specialist is responsible for delivering therapeutic services to clients of varying ages who face visual challenges. The goal is to foster and enhance visual capabilities that may have been compromised due to conditions such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, developmental vision issues, binocular vision disorders, and learning disabilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop personalized treatment strategies, including weekly home exercises, in collaboration with the supervising optometrist.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate documentation before and after each therapy session.
  • Manage a dynamic caseload of 10-20 clients.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to fellow therapists.
  • Engage in continuing education to ensure all professional licenses remain current.
  • Communicate effectively with the optometrist regarding client progress, needs, and concerns.
  • Foster a nurturing and professional atmosphere for clients.
  • Assist the optometrist with assessments during vision evaluations.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Occasionally participate in patient intake and scheduling tasks.
Qualifications:
  • Certification as a Certified Orientation and Vision Therapist (COVT) is preferred but not mandatory.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in vision therapy is required.
  • Familiarity with basic vision assessment tools and programs (e.g., DEM, Groffman, King Devick, Right Eye, visual fields, and Vision Builder).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Excel, and Word, with experience in practice management software.
  • Experience working with individuals facing visual challenges.
  • Understanding of the visual system's anatomy and its relationship to the brain, along with common vision disorders (e.g., amblyopia, convergence issues, strabismus).
  • Basic knowledge of primitive reflexes.
Work Environment:
  • Office-based setting.
  • Compensation starts at $22.00 per hour.
