CNC Milling Set Up Operator Job Description

At HORST ENGINEERING & MANUFACTURING CO, we are seeking a highly skilled CNC Milling Set Up Operator to join our team. As a key member of our production team, you will be responsible for setting up and operating CNC Milling Machines to produce high-precision component parts that meet our quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Set up and operate Milling machines (Feeler, Robodrill, and Hass platforms) to produce high-precision component parts.
  • Work from blueprints, operation sheets, travelers, or other specifications to set up and complete machining operations.
  • Check materials to ensure they meet specifications and obtain bar stock or material from the staging area as needed.
  • Perform complex set-ups of own work or for others, making adjustments to machinery and obtaining necessary tooling and equipment.
  • Assist other Operators or Set-up/Operators with set-up or production problems and help train others.
  • Ensure all manufactured parts meet quality standards, performing visual inspections and dimensional verification using measuring instruments.
  • Replace worn or damaged tooling as needed and verify and record part counts.
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment and maintain fluid levels.
  • Keep equipment and work area clean and organized, returning excess bar stock or material to the staging area.
  • Move finished work to an assigned area, entering work performed into the database and documenting scrap.
  • Notify lead person or supervisor of parts shortages or machining problems.
  • Pack and wash/preserve parts as needed and perform other machining and assembly operations as required.
Requirements:
  • High School diploma or equivalent, technical school training a plus.
  • Minimum 3 years of set-up experience required.
  • Experience with aerospace products and/or close tolerance parts a plus.
  • Familiarity with Fanuc controls and ability to set and change tools required.
  • Ability to use standard gauges and inspection techniques and experience with SPC, inspection documentation, and problem-solving a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal and analytical skills, with ability to read and write comments, understand operation sheets/blueprints, specifications, and company/customer paperwork.
  • Ability to read CNC programs and 5+ years of increasingly diverse experience in a machine shop or CNC machining environment.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to push/pull/carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to stand for up to 8+ hours.
