Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Technician II to join our team at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of a pharmacist to perform a variety of technical pharmaceutical tasks, including preparing intravenous admixtures, triaging medication-related communications, and maintaining the electronic medical record.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare, package, and label medication in an accurate and efficient manner
  • Compounding of sterile intravenous admixtures, including hazardous, non-hazardous, and Investigational Drug Service medications
  • Assist in the training of pharmacy technicians, technicians in training, and interns
  • Triage incoming phone calls and electronic messages relating to medications
  • Interact with professional and technical staff in a courteous manner
  • Cleaning and restocking sterile compounding areas
  • Other pharmacy-related duties in accordance with regulations under Washington State Pharmacy Quality Assurance Commission
Investigational Drug Management

The successful candidate will also be responsible for managing investigational drug inventory, including ordering, receiving, organizing, and monitoring the use of investigational products. They will also be responsible for maintaining separate supplies of investigational products for trials that require them.

Inventory/Purchasing

The Pharmacy Technician II will be responsible for ordering adequate drug inventory for the site they work at, maintaining adequate on-site drug inventory to meet patient needs, and performing inventory outdates to check for expired products. They will also assist the site pharmacist lead with returning drugs that are no longer needed or expired.

Automated Dispensing Machine (ADM)

The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring the ADM when drug stock is out or running low, preparing stock for pharmacist check, restocking, and completing documentation of ADM.

Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of an approved pharmacy technician training program
  • WA State Pharmacy Technician Certification
  • 1 year pharmacy technician experience or completion of Fred Hutch pharmacy apprentice program
  • Ability to communicate verbally in person, on the phone, and in writing in a clear, concise, and professional manner
  • Ability to perform basic pharmaceutical calculations
  • Ability to use a mouse, navigate computer programs, enter data into computer systems accurately and efficiently
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge and experience compounding sterile intravenous admixtures
  • Knowledge and experience working with hazardous medications
  • Knowledge of and experience with electronic medical records
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team
