Assistant for Generative AI in Educational Technology

Overview:
The Instructional Media and Technology Services (IMATS) team is seeking a Graduate Assistant to engage in various initiatives focused on the integration of Generative Artificial Intelligence within educational frameworks.

Role Summary:
This position presents a remarkable chance to influence the evolution of AI in academia while remaining at the cutting edge of technological progress. Responsibilities include facilitating interactive workshops, investigating AI applications, and collaborating with both technical and non-technical team members to enhance AI understanding within the institution. The selected candidate will join an initial group working on collaborative projects related to Generative AI in partnership with the Center for Engaged Pedagogy (CEP).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead workshops and labs demonstrating the application of Generative AI in educational settings for faculty, students, and staff.
  • Familiarize oneself with Barnard's AI Literacy Framework and utilize its principles in discussions surrounding generative AI.
  • Conduct research and evaluate generative AI tools, sharing insights and recommendations with colleagues in IMATS and CEP.
  • Stay informed about the latest advancements and trends in generative AI technology, regularly updating the team on relevant developments.
  • Assist with administrative duties related to event coordination, project oversight, and documentation.
  • Engage in new initiatives or programs related to generative AI as they emerge.
Qualifications & Skills:
  • Experience with generative AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, DALL-E, Midjourney, or Firefly, preferably in educational contexts.
  • Understanding of the operational principles behind generative AI technologies, including foundational knowledge of LLMs, neural networks, and machine learning.
  • Ability to communicate effectively about AI with both technical personnel (e.g., software developers) and non-technical stakeholders (e.g., faculty from diverse disciplines).
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for the application of generative AI in educational environments, including considerations of ethics and policy.
  • Willingness to explore generative AI technologies, including testing and assessing AI tools, experimenting with prompt engineering, or developing custom AI models.
  • Capability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong organizational abilities and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
To be eligible, candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree and be enrolled in a graduate program (such as a Master's, Ph.D., or Ed.D.).

Compensation:
$32.50/hour; averaging 10 hours per week.

The salary for the selected candidate will be determined based on various factors, including departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialties, and training. The stated hiring range reflects the institution's good faith estimate of potential compensation at the time of posting.
