Cummings Electrical is seeking a highly skilled Electrical & Instrumentation Technician to join our team. As a key member of our service business, you will be responsible for installing, integrating, and maintaining process instrumentation equipment, motor control circuits, and power circuits.
Key Responsibilities- Interpret schematic drawings and diagrams to identify and troubleshoot electrical and instrumentation issues.
- Perform installation, integration, and maintenance of process instrumentation equipment, including gauges, switches, controllers, recorders, transmitters, and temperature sensors.
- Install and modify motor control circuits and power circuits, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.
- Use calibration instruments and tools to perform field calibration of instrumentation and record data on correct forms.
- Analyze field failure data to determine the root cause of issues and implement solutions.
- Design, load, and implement new logic for control circuits, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems.
- Perform installation of electrical conduits and raceways, including GRC, IMC, EMT, PVC, and basket/ladder tray.
- Ensure proper terminations of all I/O components, instrumentations, and labeling to meet specifications.
- Organize and run scheduled work orders within the department to meet on-time needs.
- Communicate with vendors, engineers, owners, service managers, and other contractors to ensure jobs are completed within scope and budget.
- Treat clients with the highest degree of respect and work to develop a partnership environment.
- 5+ years of experience in controls and automation.
- 2+ years of leadership responsibilities.
- Understanding and use of calibration tools, including process meters, test pressure kits, gauges, RTD/Temp. calibrators, milliamp meters, and HART 475 communicators.
- TDLR issued Journeyman's License.
- Ability to read and interpret documents, including safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, quality manuals, and procedure manuals.
- Understand priorities communicated by leadership and oversee construction schedule based on resources and lead times of components/equipment.
- Ability to perform simple shop math and convert decimals to fractional equivalents.
- Basic computer skills, including running scheduling reports, ensuring department work transactions are completed correctly, and basic use of Microsoft Office suite.
- Job requires working in all elements, depending on job location, time of year, heat, cold, rain, and snow.
- Must be able to utilize construction site sanitary facilities.
- Job requires employee to have required personal tools with them, including a waist tool belt weighing approximately 30 lbs.
- Work from all types of ladders, including step ladders up to 14', 'A' frame ladders, and all size extension ladders.
- Employee's personal weight and personal tools cannot exceed the weight limit of the ladder.
- Perform work at various heights, up to 90' from ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, cat walks, or other safe work areas.
- Work in restricted areas, including switchgear rooms, manholes, utility tunnels, crawl spaces, and attics.
- Must wear personal protective equipment, including hard hats and safety glasses, and respirators when required.
- Able to work 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, overtime as required, and night shifts.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull, and reach overhead.
- Lift 51 pounds, 20 times per day.
- Repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers.
- Constantly moving on your feet.
- Climb ladders of all types.
- Completing overhead work for full-day assignments.
- Must be able to make transitions from employee parking areas or streets into construction work areas and to gain access to all levels of the building.
- Possess good vision (normal or corrected).
- Possess good hearing (normal or corrected).
- Ability to read and comprehend written instructions, including job site directions, maps, and instructional manuals.
- Ability to follow verbal instructions.
