Position Summary

The Loan Officer will be responsible for developing and managing a diverse portfolio of agricultural loans. This includes maintaining current accounts and generating new loan opportunities. Familiarity with farm and agribusiness financials, as well as contemporary agricultural lending practices, is advantageous.

Market Area: This position primarily serves the Higginsville region.

Classification: Exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Department: Marketplace

Reporting Structure: Reports to the Vice President, Team Leader, Ag & Rural Lending

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Key Responsibilities

  • Loan Origination and Portfolio Management (60%)
    • Engage with existing clients and prospects to collect, update, and evaluate financial and operational information to assess eligibility.
    • Complete the necessary application process for submission to the credit department.
    • Analyze credit for new and servicing actions.
    • Verify financial documentation and ensure compliance with closing conditions.
    • Establish product pricing.
    • Communicate credit decisions and facilitate the closing process.
    • Coordinate loan closing logistics to accommodate customer needs.
    • Manage loans, including partial releases and changes in terms.
    • Identify at-risk loans and formulate action plans to address issues.
  • Marketing and Sales (25%)
    • Represent FCS Financial at agricultural events and meetings.
    • Participate in auctions and sales to promote services and products.
    • Develop tailored sales strategies for potential and current clients.
    • Identify business opportunities through relationship-building initiatives.
    • Review financial data for cross-selling opportunities.
    • Allocate marketing budget effectively.
    • Collaborate with internal and external resources to meet client needs.
  • Chattel and Collateral Valuations (10%)
    • Conduct valuations of chattel (livestock, crops, equipment) and collateral (real estate).
    • Utilize external resources and internal manuals to determine values.
  • Training (5%)
    • Participate in loan officer development training as assigned.

Additional Duties: Perform other responsibilities as required to support the organization.

Portfolio Management: Responsible for managing a portfolio size of up to $55M.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Understanding of the sales process and negotiation tactics.
  • Familiarity with marketing strategies and the financial services industry.
  • Knowledge of the agricultural sector and basic accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written, to convey complex information effectively.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new policies and procedures quickly.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and integrity of client data.
