Job Description

Caterpillar Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist to join its team. As a Data Scientist, you will be responsible for performing analytical tasks and initiatives on large amounts of data to support data-driven business decisions and development.

You will direct the data gathering, data mining, and data processing processes, creating appropriate data models and exploring, promoting, and implementing semantic data capabilities through Natural Language Processing, text analysis, and machine learning techniques.

Key responsibilities include defining requirements and scope of data analyses, presenting and reporting possible business insights to management using data visualization technologies, and conducting research on data model optimization and algorithms to improve effectiveness and accuracy on data analyses.

You will also be responsible for developing, validating, applying, and refining statistical models, as well as applying related digital technologies in processing both inputs and outputs from models.

Additionally, you will provide examples of everyday analytical tasks, including determining should-cost curves to identify cost outliers targeted by material cost reduction teams, and create visualizations of the output in a digital technology such as Microsoft Power BI.

Requirements include a Master's degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, and two and a half years of experience as a Data Analyst, Quality Analyst, or related occupation in the data science industry.

Preferred qualifications include experience with data management systems for product development data frames, R and Python for machine learning and artificial intelligence applications, data visualization and query tools used to connect to data warehouses, and statistical analysis (Minitab).
