KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver direct music therapy services to hospice patients and their families in various settings.
  • Conduct thorough assessments and implement tailored interventions to address individual needs.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team and other expressive therapists regarding patient referrals and intervention prioritization.
  • Engage in team conferences to discuss patient care as appropriate.
  • Educate hospice staff on the role of music therapy and its applications with patients and families.
  • Advise team members on utilizing music to fulfill specific patient and family requirements.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all services provided.
  • Offer bereavement support to family members as deemed suitable by the care team.
  • Facilitate support groups when requested.
  • Oversee music therapy equipment, including inventory management and maintenance.
  • Conduct training sessions and assist with community outreach initiatives as needed.
  • Support the orientation and training of students, volunteers, and new hires.
  • Assist with memorial services upon request.
  • Be available for urgent situations as they arise.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in meeting the needs of patients and families, including evening and weekend availability.
  • Lead and supervise the internship program for music therapy students.
  • Participate in agency committees as required.
  • Engage in on-call duties for counseling services during weekends and holidays.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Board Certification in Music Therapy.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in music therapy or completion of a music therapy internship in hospice care, or significant experience with terminally ill individuals.
  • Possess a soothing singing voice and proficiency in playing an accompanying instrument.
  • Ability to apply music therapy techniques to assist patients and families with various challenges, including anxiety, pain management, and emotional expression.
  • Familiarity with developmental stages in children and knowledge of age-appropriate music activities.
  • Understanding of adult and child responses to grief and life-threatening situations.
  • Capability to create a safe and expressive environment through music.
  • Experience in facilitating group sessions is preferred.
  • Physical ability to transport music instruments and related equipment weighing up to 60 lbs.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage.
