Pediatric Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist Job Summary

As a Pediatric Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) at UTHealth Houston, you will play a vital role in providing professional nursing services by administering anesthesia to pediatric patients under the age of 18. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring the safe and effective delivery of anesthesia to pediatric patients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepares and administers anesthetic agents to patients in order to desensitize them to permit the performance of medical or surgical procedures.
  • Performs pre-anesthesia evaluation of the patient in order to ascertain physiological and psychological factors which influence the selection of anesthetic agent and the formulation of the plan of anesthetic management.
  • Monitors the patient in the operating room in order to maintain the patient's in a homeostatic condition and to assure that unnecessary injuries are not inflicted on the patient.
  • Records anesthetic information on the anesthesia chart to provide a permanent record necessary for the care of the patient, to provide material for teaching, for study, and to establish a medical-legal record.
  • Provides clinical supervision or guidance of nurse anesthesia students, paramedical, and medical students in order to contribute to their clinical training.
  • Responds to emergency situations.
Requirements:
  • Current Texas Licensure as a Registered Nurse
  • Current Texas Licensure as APRN
  • Current American Association of Nurse Anesthetist certification (AANA)
  • BLS, ACLS and/or other specialty certification as required by department
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experienced in a major medical center or a major trauma receiving hospital.
  • Skilled in administration of varied regional anesthesia techniques, i.e., spinal, epidurals, brachial plexus blocks.
  • Skilled in the placement of arterial lines, CVP, and PA lines, and is capable in the use and interpretation of varied pressure monitoring and lab values.
  • Active pursuit of continuing education credits.
  • Experienced in academics, i.e., has worked with nurse anesthesia students, residents, and medical students.
