Job Summary

Smithfield Foods is seeking a highly skilled Senior Strategic Sourcing Manager to lead the strategic sourcing of indirect spend. This role will partner with cross-functional stakeholders and suppliers to develop category strategies that deliver value for money, ensure supply chain continuity, measurable cost efficiencies, innovation, and world-class sourcing support to the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategic sourcing plans to achieve cost savings and supply chain efficiency.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify opportunities for process improvement and implement changes to drive business results.
  • Manage relationships with key suppliers to ensure delivery of high-quality products and services.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to develop and implement sourcing strategies that meet business objectives.
  • Develop and maintain category strategies to ensure alignment with business objectives.
  • Provide training and guidance to less experienced staff on strategic sourcing methodologies and best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university and 8+ years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Candidates with a Master's degree in a related field and 6+ years of relevant experience will be considered qualified.
  • 2+ years of demonstrated experience in team management and development.
  • Experienced in contract negotiation, including development of negotiating plans and strategies.
  • Progressive experience utilizing strategic sourcing methodology.
  • Strong influencer with experience in acting as a lead by providing training, guidance, or mentoring to less experienced staff.
  • Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Experience with eSourcing tools.
  • Excellent PC skills: MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), SAP.
  • Ability to demonstrate proven results.
  • Experience with strategic sourcing techniques such as managing value stream, lean concepts, contractual alternatives, and buying theories.
  • Strong project management skills in support of cross-functional team activities.
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to be respectful, approachable, and team-oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
  • Must be willing to travel a minimum of 20%.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Responsible for supervision of Strategic Sourcing Analysts.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
