About the Opportunity

Smithfield Foods is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Manager, Strategic Sourcing - Packaging to lead the development and implementation of progressive sourcing strategies that deliver cost efficiencies, supply assurance, and quality in the procurement of packaging materials.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategic sourcing plans to optimize packaging material procurement.
  • Lead the development and management of supplier relationships to ensure high-quality products and services.
  • Conduct spend analysis, market research, and supplier evaluation to identify opportunities for cost reduction and process improvement.
  • Develop and manage contracts, negotiations, and vendor selection processes to ensure best-in-class terms and conditions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate procurement strategies and processes with business plans and objectives.
  • Drive continuous improvement in supplier performance, business adoption, and technology enhancements.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key business leaders to understand and support their vendor needs.
  • Ensure Smithfield leverages its buying power to reduce costs and ensure sustainable supply of quality materials.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university and 8+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2+ years of demonstrated experience in team management/development or project leadership.
  • Minimum of 5+ years' experience in a position of leadership to include team development and management.
  • Progressive experience utilizing strategic sourcing methodology.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent PC skills: MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • SAP experience is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to demonstrate proven results with contract reading, writing, and negotiation.
  • Experience with Strategic Sourcing Techniques such as managing value stream, lean concepts, contractual alternatives, and buying theories.
  • Strong project management skills in support of cross-functional team activities.
  • High level of written and verbal communication skills, organizational planning, teamwork, analytical reasoning, and adaptability.
  • Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to be respectful, approachable, and team-oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
  • Ability to work through complex, unstructured problems.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Provides leadership and direction to sourcing team.
