Job Summary:

The Behavioral Health Consultant will provide brief, evidence-based assessments and interventions to support functional restoration and symptom management. This role is part of an integrated care team, working closely with medical and allied health providers to develop clear treatment plans for patient management.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Apply biopsychosocial models of human behavior and development to inform interventions.
  • Provide first-line interventions in a time-limited setting for a broad spectrum of physical and mental health problems.
  • Target treatment for mental health concerns, substance abuse, adverse health behaviors, and stress-related physical symptoms.
  • Effectively educate patients and families on medical and behavioral treatment plans.
  • Teach classes and groups related to integrated behavioral health, such as chronic pain management and stress management.
  • Utilize electronic health records and verbal communication to concisely share relevant information with medical providers.
  • Provide consultation and training to primary care team members on mental health, chemical dependency, and behavioral medicine.
  • Demonstrate expertise in discussing psychotropic medications with patients, including indications, effects, and side effects.
  • Assess and manage suicidal and homicidal risk, as well as concerns for child or elder abuse and neglect.
  • Coordinate with crisis teams, police, and Child Protective Services as needed.
  • Perform clinical, compliance, and administrative duties related to Medicare billing.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Two years of post-doctoral practice experience with primary care behavioral health/collaborative care training.
  • Doctorate in Psychology or related behavioral health field.
  • Psychologist License (Colorado) required at hire.
  • National Provider Identifier required at hire.
Additional Requirements:
  • Taxonomy Code required at time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced Primary Care setting.
  • Ability to function effectively in an inter-disciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine patient populations.
  • Knowledge of complex systems of psychiatric care and substance abuse treatment.
  • Outstanding communication and organizational skills.
  • Consistently demonstrates knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors necessary to provide superior and culturally sensitive service.
  • Working knowledge of data collection tools, databases, and word processing programs.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills, customer focus abilities, and ability to understand Kaiser Permanente customer needs.
  • Bi-or multi-lingual.
