Williams College is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for its students, faculty, and staff. As an Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Safety Assistant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with fire safety regulations and supporting the operations of EH&S.

Job Summary:
  • Conduct monthly inspections of fire extinguishers, fire escapes, building common areas, and fire doors to ensure they are functioning properly.
  • Test emergency lights and exit signs on a monthly basis to guarantee their operability.
  • Perform follow-up repairs or replacements, and document all inspected and tested equipment.
  • Assist with campus safety training, new/updated fire alarm testing, semi-annual fire drills and smoke demonstrations, life safety workplace training, life safety inspections of faculty turnovers, yearly maintenance of all fire extinguishers, smoke detectors and CO detectors in faculty rentals, and confiscation of unauthorized items.

In addition to these responsibilities, you will also manage efforts to evaluate, respond to, and mitigate environmental risks to provide a safe and healthy work environment. This includes assisting with clean-up of hazardous materials or waste, interacting with a diverse group of people including faculty, staff, students, and outside agencies, and participating in rotating On Call duties.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Between 1 and 2 years of relevant safety or related experience
  • Must complete various training programs upon being hired, including HAZWOPER, NFPA 80 Certification, OSHA 10, RRP Supervisor certification, Deleading supervisors' certificate, Hot Works certification, Knowledge of the fire and safety field, and CPR/AED, First-Aid, and Stop the Bleed.

Pay range: $23-$26 per hour, commensurate with experience. Employment at Williams College is contingent on the verification of background information submitted by the applicant.
