Artistic Guidance Director

Walnut Hill School for the Arts seeks a visionary Artistic Guidance Director to lead its College Counseling Office. This is a full-time, 10-month position during the school year, reporting to the Director of College Counseling. The successful candidate will work closely with the Registrar and Admissions team to ensure seamless communication and coordination throughout the college application process.

The Artistic Guidance Director will be responsible for guiding students and families through all aspects of the college, conservatory, or gap-year planning and application process. Key responsibilities include:

• Providing individualized guidance and support to 11th, 12th, and PG students and their families as they explore post-high school opportunities;
• Collaborating with arts and academic faculty to support students' aspirations and develop a customized process of self-assessment and exploration;
• Assisting students in navigating the application materials and essays, and engaging in the arts-specific audition, interview, and/or portfolio review process;
• Writing detailed letters of recommendation for each student and submitting supporting documents within specified deadlines;
• Visiting colleges and universities across the United States, attending events, and conferences; and
• Maintaining accurate records and disseminating information about standardized tests such as the PSAT, SAT, ACT, TOEFL, and IELTS.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of college admissions policies and processes, excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. They will also demonstrate cultural competence in working with diverse populations and commit to learning about and practicing anti-racist work.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

• A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience;
• At least 5+ years of experience in college admissions, college counseling, or a related field;
• Knowledge of colleges, their academic and artistic programs, admission policies, and financial procedures;
• Familiarity with Naviance software and proficiency in Google platform and Microsoft Office Suite;
• Strong collaboration and team-oriented working and leadership skills;
• Excellent written, listening, and verbal communication skills;
• Ability to work independently and effectively in a changing environment;
• Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion;
• Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive community;
• Cultural competence in working with diverse populations;
• Interest in the goals, objectives, and mission of an independent boarding school focused on excellence in arts and academics;
• Commitment to continuous professional development and growth.
