Your Key Responsibilities- Prepare conceptual designs for high voltage substation projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards and specifications.
- Carry out, review, and analyze complex technical studies and project scopes, providing expert advice to stakeholders.
- Develop and review technical specifications, drawings, and standards for equipment and projects, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
- Develop and review Design Basis Memoranda, detailed engineering scope, and guide assigned discipline engineers to align engineering deliverables with project requirements.
- Work closely with peers to ensure accurate delivery and thorough electrical design that meets industry standards and specifications.
- Develop and review substation designs, including One-Line, plan view, and sections, grounding plans, and detail, cable raceway and trench drawings, lightning protection drawings, lighting drawings, connectors and conductors tables and details, Station BOM, and all other deliverables related to physical design of the substation.
- Maintain complete project documentation, including engineering studies and calculations, design packages, as-built requirements, and return data information.
- Develop and maintain good working relationships with internal groups that support projects, such as other Engineering disciplines, Drafting, Procurement, Construction, and Project Management.
- Select equipment and material, and prepare specifications for material, equipment, construction, and installation work.
- Review internal and external designs for code compliance, good design practice, and constructability.
- Coordinate design activities with other multi-discipline project team members.
- Provide construction support, including resolving site queries, attending site meetings, and performing site inspections during the construction phase of projects.
- Mentor and provide guidance to developing junior engineers within the department.
- Support technical proposals.
- Reports to the Substation Engineering Manager, East.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Lead Substation Electrical Engineer with a strong background in high voltage substation design and engineering. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of 7+ years' experience in utility scale substation physical design.
The successful candidate will have deep knowledge of high voltage major equipment, such as power and instrument transformers, circuit breakers, disconnects, FACTS devices, capacitive and inductive compensation, and the ability to write major equipment specifications. Experience in the design of wiring schematics is mandatory, and knowledge of modern power systems, power system protection, and relay technologies is highly desirable.
The candidate will also have a proven track record of upholding workplace safety and the ability to abide by WSP's health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies. PE registration in the US and ability to register in other US States is preferred, and experience with HVDC equipment, AutoCAD Electrical, and Substation Sesign Suite (SDS) is an asset.

The expected salary range is $111,200 - $189,000, and we reserve the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant's sex or other status protected by local, state, or federal law.
