We are seeking an Admissions Counselor to join our team at VCUarts. As an Admissions Counselor, you will play a critical role in recruiting and counseling prospective undergraduate students and their families. You will travel extensively, both locally and nationally, to attend portfolio days, college fairs, and other recruitment events. You will also establish and maintain professional relationships with high school counselors and other academic professionals.
Responsibilities- Recruit and counsel prospective undergraduate students and their families through travel and outreach efforts.
- Establish and maintain professional relationships with high school counselors and other academic professionals.
- Provide current information about VCUarts programs and the admissions process to prospective students and their families.
- Review prospective students' portfolios and provide feedback to improve their artwork and prepare successful applications to VCUarts.
- Attend on-campus prospective and admitted student events.
- Lead on-campus, off-campus, and virtual information sessions for prospective students and their families.
- Bachelor's degree, BFA, or significant coursework in art and design preferred.
- Experience energetically and enthusiastically discussing academic programs and visual arts with potential students.
- Exceptional customer service skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, complex work environment.
- Ability to prioritize work, creatively solve problems independently, and use available resources.
- Minimum of one year working in a college or university admissions or recruitment setting and/or experience working in an art and/or design field.
- Strong administrative skills and experience working with Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Experience in higher education, admissions, or recruitment.
- Knowledge of VCUarts programs or prior VCUarts student.
- Previous customer service and public speaking experience.
- Experience with Slideroom, Slate, and Banner.
This is a part-time, year-round position with high and low periods of activity, averaging 29 hours of work per week. Extensive travel is required, and the successful candidate must hold a valid driver's license and be able and willing to travel overnight and out of state for up to one week at a time. Weekends and evening work are common and expected during recruitment and yield season.
