Medical Laboratory Specialist

UC Health is seeking a Medical Technologist I to join our core lab department. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing routine and complex laboratory analyses, identifying and correcting problems within the scope of training, and staying current in laboratory theory and technique.
About the Role
This is a full-time position working third shift at University of Cincinnati Medical Center. The Medical Technologist I will be responsible for:
- Performing laboratory analyses, including routine and complex testing
- Identifying and correcting problems within the scope of training
- Staying current in laboratory theory and technique
- Assuming responsibility for problem solving and exercising independent judgment and interpretation

Responsibilities
The Medical Technologist I will be responsible for:
- Engaging in population-appropriate communication
- Having knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks
- Giving clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment
- Identifying any physical limitations of the patient and deploying intervention when necessary
- Recognizing and responding appropriately to patients/family with behavioral health problems
- Interpreting population-related data and planning care appropriately
- Performing treatments, administering medication or operating equipment safely
- Recognizing and responding to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect
- Performing and reporting routine and complex laboratory analyses
- Using set protocols and guidelines and independent judgment to evaluate the credibility and accuracy of test results
- Performing work in an efficient manner by coordinating testing steps to achieve maximum productivity
- Operating, maintaining, and repairing clinical laboratory equipment within the scope of training
- Keeping appropriate persons informed of instrument problems and resolutions
- Maintaining currency in the field through completion of all mandatory competencies and training modules, regular review of departmental policies and procedures and participation in continuing education opportunities
- Performing and recording all quality control procedures
- Evaluating the results of quality control and implementing corrective action when indicated
- Keeping appropriate person(s) informed of ongoing problems and resolution of problems
- Obtaining blood specimens by venipuncture or skin puncture within scope of training and demonstrated competency
- Competently accessing, triaging, and processing specimens in preparation for testing and transit
- Evaluating samples for acceptability
- Following all safety policies and procedures
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have:
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in science (biology, chemistry, etc.)
- Preferred: An associate degree in a clinical laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution
- MLT(ASCP) certification or equivalent is preferred
- Laboratory experience preferred
Salary Range
The expected starting salary range for this position is between $27.33/hr. - $33.78/hr. The actual pay rate for this position will be dependent on a variety of factors, including an applicant's years of experience, unique skills and abilities, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, and other requirements for the position.
