Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to calls for service and provide timely and effective assistance to students, faculty, and staff.
  • Conduct regular patrols of the campus to identify and mitigate potential safety and security risks.
  • Write and submit accurate and detailed reports of incidents and events.
  • Assist with initial training of new security personnel and participate in ongoing training and professional development.
  • Monitor and respond to alarm systems, CCTV cameras, and other security equipment.
  • Provide excellent customer service and interact with the campus community in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Collaborate with other security personnel and campus departments to ensure a safe and secure learning environment.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Acceptable written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with diverse populations and provide excellent customer service.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experienced user of common computer hardware and software.
  • Able to meet physical requirements of the job, including walking, standing, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in security or law enforcement.
  • Knowledge of security protocols and procedures.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively.
Working Conditions

The Security Officer, Part-Time will work in an office setting as well as outside on the campus. The position requires the ability to work in a variety of weather conditions and to lift up to 50 pounds.

The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy offers a competitive salary and benefits package, including retirement benefits through the State Universities Retirement System (SURS).
